Fold & Fabricate with Soft Slabs

Description: This workshop intends to demystify working with soft slabs and offers the essential components to creating unique slab built pots. Students will be introduced to the techniques of working with earthenware clay slabs and paper patterns. They will begin with simple functional forms and expand to include components such as lids, feet, and spouts. There will be discussion and work time allotted towards surface treatment using terra sigillata and underglazes. Firing not included.

This workshop emphasizes one-on-one interaction in a supportive, positive environment where experimentation is encouraged and individual development nurtured.

Expect to spend 4 days together creating & connecting, learning new skills, and visiting select galleries & studios.

Age & Level: 18+ This workshop is designed to accommodate all clay enthusiasts from beginner to advanced. Some clay experience is helpful.

Format: Hands-on & Demonstration

Materials Provided: Earthenware clay (students may bring their own), underglazes, terra sigillata, earthenware slip for slip trailing, hand-outs. Student materials list will be emailed upon registration.

Happy Hour Date: Students are invited to stay for lite snacks and beverages on June 9th from 5-6pm.

Cancellation policy: 100% refund if we can fill your spot. 50% refund if we cannot fill your spot. No refund for cancellations received less than 2 weeks from workshop date.

What to expect:

Day 1-Introduction of cylinders, cups, and darting. Happy hour hosted by Liz from 5-6pm

Day 2-Cream & Sugar Sets: includes lids, feet, & spouts. Visual presentation 5-6pm (weather permitting)

Day 3-Local studio & gallery tour guided by Liz. Open studio 3-9pm. Dinner provided by Liz at Double Island Studio

Day 4-Introduction to low fire surfaces. Demonstration and hands-on work time. Workshop ends at 3pm
