Baskets & Totes
One approach to push the importance of material as information and concept is the use of mixed media. Metal has become a material that I use in conjunction with clay pieces as well as singular objects. My initial connotations of the material were qualities of strength, solidity, and structure. As I began to work with the steel rod, I found ways to create qualities of delicacy, weightlessness, and transparency. I could create forms through the use of line. The forms became created through transparency. The mixed media of clay and metal together further pushed the transparency in the steel baskets. The clay objects became the weighted, solid masses, while the metal objects became linear forms created through the lack of material. The following items are available through custom order only.
